Sending a request to the computers of the chosen blockchain network is required in order to write information in the blockchain, such as the digital fingerprint of a graduation certificate in the form of Blockcerts. The computers then take control of the information, process it, and store it permanently. This process has a high computational cost as well as a financial cost in the case of a public blockchain.
The certificates that an organization issues (such as the degrees earned in a given day) are grouped together, and their digital fingerprints are stored together as a single piece of consistent data using mathematical and cryptographic techniques in order to optimize these operations and raise the security level (Merkle Tree). The information package is transmitted to the computers after it is prepared.
