Objectives
This lab aims to provide students with basic tools for the analysis and interpretation of data in the field of development economics.

Programme
The lab will offer an overview of the basic quantitative tools for analysis of data.
It will focus both on theory (in particular on econometrics) and practice (software for data analysis). With respect to the practical part, we will use the software STATA, which the students enrolled to this course can freely download and use (instructions will be provided).

The following topics will be covered:
-Data management and basic statistics in STATA
-OLS: introduction, assumptions & applications
-Causal inference, difference-in-differences & programme evaluation
-Instrumental Variables
-Hypothesis testing
- Model selection
- Introduction to non-linear models
- Teaching

We have planned 12 lectures of 3h each, which will be held only in presence, given the "laboratory" nature of the course.

Materials will be uploaded on the moodle page of the course for each topic.

The course will start on Feb 22nd and will end on April 5th. It will be held on Thursdays and Fridays, 2-5pm in a computer lab at CLE. There will be desktop computers in the room, but you can bring your own laptop and install STATA on it.

The first 6 lectures will be taught by prof. P. Conzo, while the remaining 6 by prof. V. Frontuto.

Possible changes in the schedule will be communicated through this platform, so stay tuned!

Tutorials
Extra tutorials will be scheduled "informally" during the course. These will be organised by dr. Jessica Mancuso.
